GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Glen Thaddeus Green, 58, was taken into custody this week after authorities accused him of running from a traffic stop and possessing crack cocaine.
According to the Gainesville Police Department, an officer attempted to stop Green at approximately 12:01 a.m. on September 28. Green was reportedly riding a bicycle without lights near the 1900 block of NE 8th Avenue. Instead of stopping, he allegedly asked, “Why are y’all stopping me?” and continued riding.
Officers pursued Green until he fell from the bicycle, then placed him in handcuffs. While lying face down, he reportedly kept his hands tucked inside his waistband and ignored repeated commands to move them into view. Police said they ultimately had to remove his hands by force.
Green allegedly shouted, “I have a lot of crack on me.”
Police said a search conducted after the arrest uncovered approximately 3.3 grams of crack cocaine, a crack pipe and part of a Brillo pad.
After being read his Miranda rights, Green reportedly told investigators he fled because he had recently smoked crack and was carrying more crack cocaine and a pipe in his backpack.

Green faces charges of controlled-substance possession, fleeing from law enforcement, possession of drug equipment and resisting an officer without violence. His record includes 17 nonviolent felony convictions and 43 misdemeanor convictions, two of them involving violence. He has also served six state prison sentences and was most recently released in August 2025.
In April, Green was arrested on allegations that he took a housemate’s mattress and box spring. Days later, he received a six-month jail sentence for resisting an officer without violence in connection with a New Year’s Eve incident. After completing that sentence, he posted bail in the April case and was released on September 11.
Judge George Wright set Green’s bail at $15,000. While following the law is among the standard conditions of release, Green has not been accused of violating the terms of his release in the April case.
