'Sinners' wins top prize at the Actor Awards ahead of Oscar showdown. See highlights from the 2026 Actor Awards

LOS ANGELES — The newly rebranded Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards, took center stage on Sunday night, showcasing remarkable talents in film and television. Among the highlights were several Oscar hopefuls who claimed top honors.

Taking home the award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture was the ensemble of “Sinners.” Leading actor Michael B. Jordan also secured an award for his compelling portrayal of twins in the film.

During his acceptance speech, Jordan reminisced about his early career days and expressed gratitude to his mother for her unwavering support and sacrifices.

“Mom, thank you for driving me back and forth to New York when we didn’t have enough money for the Holland Tunnel or when we were looking for gas money,” he shared, acknowledging her pivotal role in his journey.

Jessie Buckley was recognized with the Actor for female performance in a leading role for her work in “Hamnet.” In the supporting actor categories, Sean Penn won for his role in “One Battle After Another,” while Amy Madigan received accolades for her performance in “Weapons.”

Madigan lightened the mood by joking about her award, comparing it to a childhood memory. “It was like when you were little and you had the Barbie, and then you got Ken, and then you whipped down his drawers, and you went, ‘Ken has nothing,'” she quipped.

On the television side, “The Studio” dominated the comedy categories, winning best ensemble as well as acting honors for Seth Rogen and the late Catherine O’Hara.

Rogen praised O’Hara in his acceptance speech on her behalf, saying, “And she really showed that you can be a genius and be kind, and one of those things doesn’t have to come at the expense of the other in any way, shape or form.”

Keri Russell won the Actor for her performance in “The Diplomat,” while Noah Wyle was recognized for his role in “The Pitt,” which also won ensemble in a drama series.

“What I appreciate is there’s room on television for every kind of hospital show,” Wyle said. “You can have one as broad comedy as Scrubs and hard-hitting and realistic as ‘The Pitt.’”

The ceremony carried added emotion as Harrison Ford accepted the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award.

“I’m, indeed, a lucky guy,” Ford said onstage. “Lucky to have found my people, lucky to have work that challenges me, lucky to still be doing it. And I don’t take that for granted.”

“If you see me in a film, I’m being propped up by the other actors, by the writing, by everybody that works on the set. I don’t work alone. Nobody does,” he said on the red carpet.

With awards season nearing its end, the final major ceremony ahead is the Oscars, set for Sunday, March 15.
