A former school caretaker who killed two young girls in theUK has died after being attacked in prison.
Ian Huntley, who was serving a life sentence for killing Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, had his life support switched off after being hit over the head repeatedly with a metal bar at Frankland Prison in north-east England.

The passing of the individual was confirmed through a brief statement issued by the Durham Constabulary.

Despite the allegations, Huntley consistently denied any involvement in the murders of the two young girls, frequently engaging with the media during the search efforts.

Maxine Carr, his partner and a teaching assistant at the children’s school, was found guilty of providing Huntley with a false alibi.

Carr received a 21-month prison sentence for her role in obstructing justice and has since been living under a new identity.

While incarcerated, Huntley faced numerous threats to his life, necessitating close surveillance alongside other infamous criminals.

One notable attack occurred in 2010 when a fellow prisoner slashed his throat.

British media have reported that murderer and rapist Anthony Russell, 43, was responsible for the attack that ultimately led to Huntley’s death.

No charges have been laid.
