Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his “steadfast support” for Iran while offering congratulations to Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on his appointment as the new leader of the Islamic Republic.
In a telegram sent on Monday, Putin assured Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that Russia would remain a “dependable ally” to Iran amid the ongoing conflict.
“During these challenging times when Iran is confronting military aggression, your leadership will undoubtedly demand significant courage and commitment,” Putin stated in his message.
“I am confident that you will dutifully carry on your father’s legacy and bring the Iranian people together,” he added.
Khamenei, whom former President Trump has dismissed as a “lightweight,” was appointed as the new regime leader just over a week after his 86-year-old father was killed in US-Israeli strikes on his Tehran residence during the launch of Operation Epic Fury.
