Parents of alleged NYC bomb thrower own $2.5M home, are naturalized citizens from Afghanistan

The parents of one of the suspects accused of attempting to set off an explosive device near Gracie Mansion own a stunning $2.25 million property, marking their achievement of the American Dream following their immigration from Afghanistan years ago, The Post has discovered.

The family residence of Ibrahim Kayumi, the alleged attacker, is a spacious 5,800-square-foot estate featuring six bedrooms and five bathrooms, located in the picturesque area of Newtown, Pennsylvania, according to official records.

Authorities reported that Kayumi, 19, along with his associate Emir Balat, 18, made their way from their Bucks County neighborhood to join a counter-demonstration opposing Jake Lang’s anti-Muslim protest outside the mayor’s official residence.

The duo is accused of throwing homemade explosives, which contained a highly dangerous substance commonly referred to as “Mother of Satan,” a material often used by international terrorist groups, according to sources.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the incident is being treated as a case of “ISIS-inspired terrorism.”

This alleged act of terrorism starkly contrasts with the quiet and affluent suburban upbringing experienced by both Kayumi and Balat.

Kayumi’s parents became naturalized citizens between 2004 and 2009 after leaving war-torn Afghanistan, Fox News reported.

They appear to own a convenience store, records show.

Balat’s parents hailed from Turkey and became naturalized US citizens in 2017, according to Fox News.

Their home is an idyllic 3,200-square-foot, two-story house worth a respectable $653,000, records show.

Balat held up his right index finger Monday as he was escorted from a police precinct – the universal salute for the ISIS terror group.

Both Balat and Kayumi were expected to face federal charges that will be unsealed Monday.
