Man Shot and Killed in Dallas Law Enforcement Sting Was Part of Jasmine Crockett's Security Detail

In a shocking turn of events, CBS News Texas has reported that Mike King, who was responsible for managing security for Democrat Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas’ 30th District, was fatally shot by police late Wednesday night. This incident unfolded as King attempted to escape law enforcement.

The sequence of events leading to his death began when King sought refuge in the parking garage of the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. There, he barricaded himself inside a vehicle. The Dallas Police SWAT team responded by deploying tear gas to compel him out of the car. In a dramatic confrontation, King pulled out a weapon, prompting the SWAT officers to act defensively, ultimately resulting in King’s death.

The report from the news outlet further delves into the peculiar circumstances surrounding King. Apart from the serious charge of impersonating law enforcement, there were numerous other potential criminal activities linked to him. These included identity theft and the operation of fraudulent businesses, exacerbated by his use of multiple aliases. Had he survived the encounter with the police, King could have been looking at significant legal consequences and substantial prison time.

Here is where the outlet’s report linked above gets really weird.

Multiple law enforcement sources tell CBS News Texas the man, known publicly as Mike King, had been using aliases while running a business that placed officers in off‑duty jobs.

Sources say he was wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer and had claimed to be one while operating Off Duty Police Services, an online platform connecting North Texas officers with off‑duty work. Authorities have not released his real name.

Law enforcement sources also say King drove a replica undercover police vehicle and used license plates stolen from cars outside a military recruiting office. His background – which sources say includes a criminal history – raises questions about how he managed extra‑duty jobs for police officers and secured a high‑level security role for a sitting member of Congress.

There are many potential crimes listed here, on top of impersonating law enforcement. With all the aliases, there was also the possibility of identity theft and operating fraudulent businesses being added. Had King not been shot and killed by Dallas SWAT, he could have been facing some serious prison time.

During Crockett’s U.S. Senate campaign, where she sought to unseat Republican Sen. John Cornyn, Crockett’s security became an issue. Crockett was criticized for allegedly telling her security detail to remove an Atlantic reporter from a rally.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, is facing criticism online after she reportedly had armed security guards remove The Atlantic staff writer Elaine Godfrey from her Senate campaign rally on Monday.

Godfrey reported that she was “thrown out” of Crockett’s rally after being labeled a “top-notch hater” by Crockett’s team.

“Right before armed guards escorted me from the rally and left me on the edge of a Texas-county road, I was informed that I was no longer welcome at an event that I had already attended,” Godfrey wrote on Thursday.

Crockett denied this had occurred, which only drew more attention to the matter.

In another incident, Crockett’s security had also been accused of assaulting a conservative journalist. There are no confirmed reports that the King was connected to the alleged assault.

Crockett lost her Senate bid to Democrat state Senator James Tallarico in the March 4 Texas primary. Tallarico will face either TX Attorney General Ken Paxton or Sen. Cornyn. Both Republicans failed to meet the 50 plus 1 percent vote threshold in the primary. Their fate will be decided in the May 26, 2026, runoff election.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
