Australia’s Home Affairs Minister, Tony Burke, revealed that three players from Iran’s women’s football team, who were recently granted humanitarian visas, have opted to return to their home country.

In a statement issued on Sunday morning, Burke explained that the players were repeatedly offered the opportunity to discuss their choices. Ultimately, however, they decided to rejoin their team on its return to Iran.

Earlier in the week, seven team members visiting Australia for the Asian Cup received humanitarian visas. Yet, shortly after accepting the offer, one player changed her mind and chose to go back to Iran. Meanwhile, three team members have decided to stay in Australia for now.

As this situation unfolds, further updates will be provided.
