Suspect in custody after man shot, killed in Waycross, police say

A 29-year-old named Brandon Frick faces murder charges after allegedly shooting Jacob Garrett Cothern, aged 35, fatally. This incident, as reported by the Waycross Police Department, unfolded on a Friday night.

The tragic event occurred in Waycross, Georgia, where authorities have confirmed the arrest of the suspect linked to the fatal shooting. The victim, identified by police on Saturday, was local resident Jacob Garrett Cothern.

WAYCROSS, Ga. — A shooting in Waycross Friday night left one man dead, with the suspected shooter now in custody, according to the Waycross Police Department (WPD).

Police identified the victim Saturday as 35-year-old Jacob Garrett Cothern, a Waycross resident.

WPD said officers responded to the shooting, which happened near the intersection of Snelson Street and Old Brunel Street, around 8:22 p.m.

Once on scene, officers reportedly found Cothern with multiple gunshot wounds.

While additional officers were responding to the scene, WPD said they encountered 29-year-old Brandon Frick a short distance away.

The police department said Frick was armed and attempted to leave the area. Officers reportedly engaged him and took him into custody at the Ware County Jail, WPD said.

Frick has been charged with murder.
