Trump again urges nations to help reopen of Strait of Hormuz

President Trump has called on nations such as Japan and China to collaborate with the United States in ensuring the Strait of Hormuz remains open for international shipping.

In a recent statement, Trump highlighted the U.S.’s efforts to neutralize threats in the region, mentioning the destruction of over 30 mine-laying vessels belonging to Iran. He emphasized the importance of the strait, noting that it is the passageway for 95% of Japan’s oil imports.

Trump further pointed out that the Strait of Hormuz is vital for China’s energy supply, with 90% of its oil passing through, in addition to 35% of South Korea’s oil imports.

Referring to Iran’s historical use of the strait as an economic lever, Trump assured that this tactic would soon become ineffective. “Iran has long relied on this waterway as an economic tool, but its influence is diminishing,” he remarked.

The president also mentioned that numerous countries have pledged support, with varying levels of enthusiasm. “Some nations have shown great eagerness to assist, while others less so,” Trump commented, adding that these differences in commitment are significant to him.

He concluded by underlining the necessity of international cooperation, stating, “These countries depend heavily on this route and should willingly join our efforts to safeguard it.”
