GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a recent incident, 21-year-old Jesse Paul from Palatka was detained on suspicion of harassing staff members at an apartment complex.

On March 16, officers from the Gainesville Police Department were called to Lexington Crossing Apartments following reports from employees. According to them, Paul had applied for an apartment lease, but before receiving approval, he allegedly entered the model apartment unlawfully on March 12, where he spent the night and used the facilities. Initially, the apartment complex chose not to press charges, opting instead to issue a trespass warning.

Despite this, Paul reportedly persisted in reaching out to the leasing office via phone and text, ignoring instructions to direct any further inquiries to the corporate office through email. The officer present at the leasing office noted that Paul called three times within a 14-minute window. Additionally, one employee reported receiving approximately six text messages in recent days, one of which supposedly contained a gun emoji.

Paul now faces harassment charges for his alleged repeated calls and messages intended to intimidate and distress the recipients. He informed Court Services that he resides in Palatka and had only been in Alachua County for a day. With no prior criminal record, Judge Meshon Rawls decided to release him on his own recognizance.
