Mackenzie Gunther has been confirmed as the second Air Canada pilot who perished in the tragic plane crash at LaGuardia Airport on Sunday night, various sources have reported.
Gunther served as the first officer alongside pilot Antoine Forest on Air Canada Express Flight 8646. The plane tragically collided with a Port Authority fire truck shortly after it touched down at approximately 11:40 p.m., according to Radio-Canada.
The collision resulted in the deaths of the two pilots when both the Port Authority fire truck and the Air Canada aircraft were mistakenly authorized to use the same runway at the same time.
Out of the 70 passengers and remaining crew members, around 40 were transported to the hospital. Thankfully, most sustained only minor injuries and were able to be discharged by Monday morning.
The pilots were employed by Jazz Aviation LP, which operated the flight under the Air Canada Express banner, as stated by the airline.
