Drunk Arizona Woman Slams Head-on into Minivan, Killing 3; Moves to Utah After Crash

A woman involved in a head-on collision with a van carrying seven passengers in 2024 has been apprehended and faces multiple felony charges, including murder and aggravated DUI.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on December 7, 2024, along US 93 in Congress. Amy Lynn Mickelson, 48, was allegedly under the influence when she veered her BMW sedan across the center line, crashing into a Toyota Sienna minivan head-on, officials reported.

Tragically, three individuals in the minivan, including the 51-year-old driver and two passengers aged 17 and 44, were declared dead at the scene, as reported by KPHO. Mickelson sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.

The four other passengers in the van, children ranging from 5 to 16 years old, also suffered serious injuries and were transported to hospitals, according to DPS.

Following the accident, Mickelson fled Arizona and moved to Utah, where she “established residence.” With the assistance of the US Marshals Service, she was captured on March 19 at a convenience store in Salt Lake City. Mickelson is currently held without bond in the Weber County jail, awaiting extradition to Yavapai County, Arizona.

Authorities have not disclosed the timeline detailing Mickelson’s release from the hospital and her subsequent move to Utah.

She has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder, seven counts of aggravated assault, two counts of felony endangerment, one count of criminal damage, and one count of aggravated DUI.
