LONDON – A man has been detained by Derby police under suspicion of attempted murder after a car plowed into pedestrians amidst the bustling city center, leading to seven individuals being hospitalized.
In a routine response to such events, counterterrorism officials joined local law enforcement in the investigation. Chief Superintendent Emma Aldred from the Derbyshire Constabulary addressed the media on Sunday, explaining their involvement.
“I want to emphasize that this incident is not currently classified as a terrorist act,” Aldred clarified. She noted that the authorities are maintaining an open perspective regarding the potential motives.
The event unfolded around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday along Friar Gate, a vibrant nightlife hub in central Derby, a city with a population of approximately 275,000, located northeast of Birmingham.
