Headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland, the company announced that both the vehicle and its cargo remain unaccounted for.

Last week, a shipment of chocolate-covered waffle bars mysteriously vanished while traveling between its manufacturing and distribution points.

These chocolate bars were intended for distribution across Europe.

The company cautioned that the stolen candy bars might infiltrate unauthorized sales channels within European markets. However, each bar can be tracked through its unique batch code, ensuring traceability.

A KitKat spokesperson explained that this system allows consumers, retailers, and wholesalers to verify if a product belongs to the pilfered batch by scanning the batch numbers printed on the packaging.

Should a match be detected, the scanner will receive detailed guidance on notifying the company, which will then take the necessary steps to address the situation.

“Whilst we appreciate the criminals’ exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes,” KitKat said in a statement.

“With more sophisticated schemes being deployed on a regular basis, we have chosen to go public with our own experience in the hope that it raises awareness of an increasingly common criminal trend.”
