Scott Mills continued to front BBC favourites during an alleged police probe into him – including Eurovision, a Strictly Come Dancing podcast and a Comic Relief fundraiser.

In July 2018, the DJ was reportedly questioned over allegations of historic ‘serious sexual offences against a teenage boy’.

An investigation continued for almost a year, and during this time, Mills, now 53, was given a stream of high-profile presenting gigs by the Corporation.

June 2018 – Major shakeup to Radio 1 schedule

Mills left his weekday afternoon slot in a reshuffle – just before he was allegedly questioned – and became the presenter of The Official Chart show and Dance Anthems.

September 2018 – Strictly podcast

Announced as a co-host on the official Strictly Come Dancing podcast. Mills had taken part in the competition in 2014 with professional dance partner Joanne Clifton, but they were eliminated in week six. He was replaced on the podcast for the following series by glitterball winner Joe Sugg.

Hosted a BBC Lifeline Appeal – a one-off charity fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Trust. It was a cause close to his heart, because his mother Sandra has the condition.

December 2018 – Negotiations

It was widely reported that rival station Heart radio had approached Mills, but he was ‘holding out for an improved BBC deal’.

January 2019 – Daytime slot returns

The Scott Mills Show went back on air on Radio 1, with the return of some of his most recognisable segments, including ‘Innuendo Bingo’. The first comeback episode, hosted alongside fellow DJ Chris Stark, featured Davina McCall.

February 2019 – Eurovision podcast

Mills launched Eurovision Calling, a weekly podcast, in the run-up to the song contest.

March 2019 – Comic Relief

He and his longtime presenting partner Stark completed a 24-hour live broadcast for Comic Relief, raising almost £325,000.

May 2019 – Song contest semi-finals

Mills was a commentator at the Eurovision semi-finals in Tel Aviv, alongside Rylan Clark, for BBC Four.

It came after they presented the UK’s coverage of the competition from Portugal in 2018.

The pair continued to work together on Eurovision in subsequent years, but Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox has reportedly been put forward to replace him.

That May, Mills also took part in Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival in Middlesborough, introducing and interviewing artists, and spinning tracks between performances.

The same month, the Crown Prosecution Service determined that there was not sufficient evidence to bring charges against the man they were investigating alleged to be Mills, and the police closed their investigation.
