Man arrested for 1984 rape and murder of Ware County woman: GBI

In a remarkable turn of events, a decades-old case has finally seen a breakthrough. The brutal murder of Sandra Kaye Davis, a 22-year-old woman who was tragically strangled and killed in Waycross, Georgia, in 1984, has led to an arrest after 41 years.

This week, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced the arrest of Freddie Lee Granger Jr., a 68-year-old resident of Ware County. Granger is accused of the rape and murder of Davis, who was found dead on September 1, 1984, near a house on Kolluck Street. At the time of the crime, Granger was in his mid-twenties.

The breakthrough came after years of persistent DNA testing efforts by the GBI, which ultimately connected Granger to the crime. His arrest marks a significant development in a case that has haunted the community for decades.

Granger has been detained at the Ware County Jail, facing an array of charges including one count of Rape, one count of Aggravated Assault, one count of Malice Murder, and two counts of Felony Murder.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with further information about Sandra Davis’ case to reach out to the GBI by calling 912-389-4103. There is also the option for individuals to submit anonymous tips online, ensuring that any withheld details can be brought to light.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information on Sandra Davis’ death is asked to contact GBI at 912-389-4103. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online.
