Australians can expect a variety of weather conditions this Easter long weekend.

While many regions will bask in pleasant weather, others are in for storms, with temperatures swinging from cool single digits to the mid-30s.

New South Wales

In New South Wales, a trough advancing up the coast will bring rain.

Thunderstorms and showers are forecast for Sydney starting on Good Friday and continuing through Saturday, with a likely improvement by Easter Sunday.

Coastal areas near Sydney might even face the possibility of small hail. The combination of rain and southerly winds will push temperatures down to the low 20s.

VICTORIA

Victoria should avoid much of the wet weather NSW will experience, with only isolated showers forecast on Friday and Monday.

Melbourne should be sunny and a warm 26 degrees on Sunday and remain dry.

QUEENSLAND

Brisbane will be partly cloudy and may be hit by a light shower or two over the weekend as temperatures rise to the high 20s.

The wettest day is predicted to be Sunday, due to the easterly winds, but the weather will remain warm.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Perth is looking like the place to be this long weekend, with maximums in the mid-20s and only a very slight chance of a shower.

A trough will generate the heaviest showers inland in regions like the Goldfields in the state’s south-eastern corner.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Adelaide is expecting a bright and sunny Easter weekend.

The state’s capital will enjoy mild, clear conditions with temperatures in the mid-20s for much of the weekend.

A southeast breeze may bring some gusty winds, but conditions should remain comfortable, particularly in the sunshine.

The warmest day will be Sunday at 28 degrees, but a late change may bring showers in the afternoon and into Easter Monday as a cold front begins to move through.

TASMANIA

A large high-pressure system will be centred near Tasmania over the weekend with locals expected to see chilly highs of just 15 degrees in Hobart on Friday.

Conditions will stay mostly fine, although a cold front could bring showers on Monday.

Temperatures will plummet to single digits across the long weekend, with Friday and Saturday dropping to seven degrees overnight.

ACT

Temperatures will reach 24 degrees on Good Friday in the nation’s capital before the NSW system moves inland and brings possible storms.

The system will also cause temperatures to plummet, with Saturday’s maximum dipping to 16 degrees before it warms up a little on Monday.

NORTHERN TERRITORY

The Top End is still in its wet season so Darwin will experience typical tropical conditions, with showers and thunderstorms possible over the long weekend.

The maximum temperatures will be around 33 to 34 degrees.

Overall, the country shouldn’t experience extreme weather over the Easter break, which is good news for travellers.

Daylight saving ends at 3am on Sunday morning in NSW, Victoria, ACT, South Australia and Tasmania.

Conditions are expected to stay mostly dry across much of the country, with only a few isolated showers.
