Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was seen enjoying a paid vacation in a suite at the Yankees game on Sunday, while many federal workers faced the reality of six weeks without a paycheck due to the ongoing Democrat-led government shutdown.
The well-known member of the “Squad” appeared cheerful, taking selfies with admirers who eagerly shared their excitement on social media.
One enthusiastic fan posted on platform X, stating, “I met @AOC I’m never going to fail,” alongside a photo featuring Ocasio-Cortez, who wore a Yankees cap and a navy-and-white striped sweater for the game against the Miami Marlins. The game experienced a rain delay of over three-and-a-half hours.
Another admirer exclaimed, “BREAKING: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was just spotted looking gorgeous at the Yankees game tonight.”
According to insiders who spoke with The Post, the prominent Democrat watched the game from one of the stadium’s suites.
“She was not sitting down in the bleachers with her constituents,” a source noted.
Given her warm reception, it’s unlikely either of the selfie-takers are among the 35,000 federal workers who haven’t received a paycheck in 48 days as the longest partial government shutdown in history drags on.
Like the rest of her congressional colleagues, AOC is on her second week of paid vacation, still drawing a paycheck on her $174,000-a-year salary as thousands of Department of Homeland Security staffers — including FEMA workers, US Coast Guard members and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) employees are going without pay.
AOC in the house didn’t translate to a victory for the Bombers, who blew a three-run lead in a 7-6 defeat.
Other members of Congress have been spotted during their two-week break enjoying Las Vegas and hitting up “No Kings” protests in Los Angeles.
