Brazen gunman charged for fatal Easter Sunday shooting on NYC sidewalk

A man from Honduras has been charged with the brutal shooting of two individuals on a Brooklyn sidewalk during Easter Sunday, resulting in the death of one young man and leaving another critically injured, as reported by officials.

Michael Mendoza Cardona, aged 24, faced charges on Monday, including murder, attempted murder, and two counts of criminal weapon possession. These charges are linked to a deadly incident that took place Sunday evening outside a building on Fulton Street in Cypress Hills, according to the NYPD and other sources.

Dramatic surveillance video allegedly shows Mendoza Cardona firing at Jose Urena Moran, 30, and a 50-year-old man beneath the elevated J-train subway tracks between Cleveland and Elton streets.

The footage, obtained by The Post, depicts the two men standing on the sidewalk near a group of approximately three other men.

After one of the men appeared to exchange words with the group, the suspect allegedly drew a gun and fired multiple shots at him and his companion.

The audacious shooter continued to fire at the victims even as they lay lifeless on the sidewalk, according to the unsettling footage.

Both unidentified men were taken to Brookdale University Medical Center in critical condition. Moran, of Cypress Hills, was later pronounced dead, police said.

It’s unclear if Mendoza Cardona was in the country illegally. The Post has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for clarity.

An investigation remains ongoing.
