Massive pothole forces lane closures and triggers major concerns for highway integrity as crews set to descend

A massive pothole on the 14 Freeway in the Antelope Valley has caused significant disruptions, leading to extensive lane closures and lengthy traffic backups.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is mobilizing crews to tackle the issue located in the southbound lanes near Palmdale Boulevard. The problematic pothole is reportedly sizeable enough to cause damage to vehicles, prompting urgent repairs.

The California Highway Patrol has announced that the #2, #3, and #4 lanes are currently closed, with only the #1 lane remaining open for motorists.

Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and consider alternative routes to avoid congestion.

This incident compounds existing construction activities in the vicinity. Nightly closures are scheduled to persist between 20th Street West and Avenue H (northbound) and Avenue F to Avenue H (southbound) through Friday, April 10, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Motorists in the Antelope Valley should expect significant backups and remain alert for sudden stops as crews work to get traffic moving safely.
