Throughout the remainder of the flight, airline staff kept a watchful eye on the suspect and notified the authorities, according to police reports.

Upon arrival, the man was escorted off the aircraft and has subsequently been charged with engaging in sexual intercourse without consent and several counts of indecency without consent.

AFP Acting Superintendent Peter Brindal emphasized in a statement, “Every passenger deserves to travel without fear, particularly within the confined space of an aircraft where proximity to others is unavoidable.”

“Anyone subjected to (alleged) unwanted contact is encouraged to alert the authorities, be it airline staff, the AFP or airport security, as soon as it is safely possible to do so.

“No act of indecency on an aircraft or at an airport is appropriate, and any travelers who break the law will be dealt with swiftly.”

The suspect, who was identified by the West Australian newspaper, is being held in custody ahead of a bail hearing set for Friday.
