ALACHUA, Fla. – In the early hours, authorities detained 22-year-old Davon Lee Curtis, who faces charges related to the production and distribution of crack cocaine, as well as possessing a firearm during a felony.

On the night of April 17, around 11:53 p.m., an officer from the Alachua Police Department was on patrol near NW 133rd Terrace and NW 151st Lane, areas recently marked by a significant uptick in criminal incidents.

During the patrol, the officer observed an SUV heading north on NW 133rd Terrace. A check revealed that the vehicle had a seize tag order, and the registered owner was flagged for having a suspended driver’s license.

Upon stopping the vehicle, Curtis allegedly admitted knowing about his suspended license and mentioned he was working to resolve the issue. The officer noted a bag of marijuana clearly visible and detected the scent of burnt marijuana from inside the SUV. Additionally, the officer reported spotting the outline of a firearm in Curtis’s waistband, which Curtis acknowledged having.

After Curtis exited the vehicle, the officer secured the firearm. A subsequent search of the SUV, based on probable cause, reportedly uncovered approximately 13 grams of marijuana, about a gram of crack cocaine, and three small baggies of cocaine. The search also revealed empty baggies, a scale, baking powder, and metal cups and a fork wrapped in tin foil.

The officer noted that the baking powder, metal cups, and metal fork can be used to manufacture crack cocaine by heating cocaine and adding a cutting agent, such as baking powder.

Post Miranda, Curtis reportedly admitted to selling crack cocaine because he was being sued and his wages were being garnished.

Curtis has been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to manufacture and/or sell, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of selling drugs, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, driving with a suspended license, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Curtis has no local adult criminal history, and Judge Denise Ferrero set bail at $31,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
