NYPD investigating 'reckless' drag racing street takeover in Queens

A high-octane drag racing takeover featuring over 100 vehicles in Queens over the weekend has prompted an NYPD investigation, as law enforcement officials work diligently to identify those involved. The illegal gathering caught the attention of authorities in the early hours of Saturday morning, just before 2 a.m., near the intersection of Eliot Avenue and 69th Street, a spokesperson for the NYPD confirmed.

Upon arrival, officers swiftly activated their patrol lights and sirens in an attempt to break up the massive crowd. The spectacle quickly disbanded as dozens of vehicles sped away, leaving the scene behind in a flurry of chaos.

During the incident, police noted that several vehicles were seen performing dangerous maneuvers, including driving in circles. This reckless behavior was compounded by the actions of a few individuals who allegedly climbed onto an NYPD vehicle, damaging the car and leaving the windshield cracked before making their escape in a black vehicle.

Police said multiple vehicles were observed driving in circles.

A few people also allegedly jumped on the hood of an NYPD vehicle, causing damage and cracking the windshield before fleeing the scene in a black car.
