An unsettling incident unfolded in California when a woman was forcefully brought to the ground by a police officer after she allegedly hurled racial slurs and bit him. This alarming event took place when officers from the San Diego Police Department responded to a disturbance call on March 21 at around 6 p.m.
The call reported a woman at the Linda Vista Recreation Center who was acting aggressively towards both adults and children, lacing her behavior with racist remarks. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers located the woman in the skate park area.
The police claimed that the woman was confrontational and did not heed their commands, escalating the situation. In a dramatic turn of events captured in a video, one officer can be seen gripping the woman’s hand as she sits on the ground, seemingly engaged in a tense standoff.
The officers found her at the skate park area. Police alleged that she became confrontational and refused to comply with commands.
The start of the video shows a standing police officer’s left hand holding on to the sitting woman’s left hand, almost as if in a tug of war.
The officer suddenly uses his other hand to take the back of her neck and in one fell swoop, launches her into the paved ground.
Witnesses could be seen around the incident with a police car in the background next to the table the woman was sitting at.
Her body then collides with the ground, bouncing up from the impact, as witnesses exclaim in shock. Her sunglasses also falls off.
The cop then turns her over to a chest-down position, gets on top of her, and tries to wrest control of her hands.
While the officer is on top trying to restrain her, she begins yelling out. It’s unclear what exactly she’s saying, though a few expletives are heard.
At one point, the officer is trying to place handcuffs while she’s on the ground. The video shows her appearing to go for a bite of the officer’s hand, to which the officer yelled, “Stop biting me!”
The video ends with the woman still on the ground, face down, while she makes random screams as the officer tells her to stop.
The officer’s bitten left hand had swelling and an abrasion, authorities said. He was treated at a local hospital later.
The woman was evaluated by paramedics, and then booked into jail on multiple charges, including delaying or obstructing officers, resisting an officer with violence and committing a felony while out on bail.
The Post sent an inquiry to the San Diego police, including for updates and for the name of the individual.
Public reaction to the video has been varied. Some have said she deserved the incident, while others questioned the use of excessive force.
