Carvajal was fatally shot after departing a gathering in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood of Chicago in 2021.
Following the incident, Carvajal’s family reported that Matos, known by his alias “Troubles,” was apprehended by police shortly after the murder. However, the state’s attorney’s office concluded that there was not enough evidence to proceed with charges at that time.
In 2024, new developments emerged as the U.S. Attorney filed charges against Matos, including racketeering and gun-related offenses.
The FBI has since increased their reward to $50,000 for any information leading to Matos’s arrest and conviction. They have warned the public that Matos is considered armed and dangerous.
Carvajal was just shy of his 20th birthday when his life was cut short. A dedicated member of the Army National Guard, he had aspirations of joining the Chicago police force.
“That was one of his hopes and dreams. He loved this city,” Carvajal’s sister, Jennifer Ramirez, previously said.
