In Buffalo Grove, Illinois, students at Buffalo Grove High School are receiving support from counselors after witnessing a distressing incident on their campus. On Wednesday, the school provided resources to help students process the event.
The previous day, a school employee, described by students as a crossing guard, was struck by a vehicle during the end-of-day dismissal period. This incident occurred as students were leaving the school grounds.

Eyewitnesses reported that the injured staff member was assisting pedestrians across the busy street when the accident took place. He was subsequently taken to the hospital and was last reported to be in critical condition.
Reflecting on the situation, Jethro Woodard, a junior at Buffalo Grove High School, expressed his concern by saying, “It’s very unfortunate and terrible.”
He was last listed in critical condition.

Students at Buffalo Grove High School are still trying to make sense of this tragedy.
Police said around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, a crash happened as a car was leaving the Buffalo Grove High School parking lot.
Investigators said the car hit a pole, that then hit a staff member.
“He’s a security guard at BG and had crosswalk duty and making sure cars stopped so kids can cross the road,” Woodard said.
Officers responded to Dundee Road, where they gave the staffer medical attention before he was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
ABC7’s media partners at the Daily Herald sharing this picture with us of the scene. Officers closed the road for over three hours as they investigated.
Police said the driver was not a student.
Wednesday morning, Buffalo Grove Police returned to the school as students were dropped off.
In a letter to parents, the principal saying in part, “Several staff and students witnessed this serious accident. Traumatic events like this can be upsetting to hear about, and support is available at school for any students “
Police said the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
