US embassy in London warns to 'exercise increased caution' near Jewish sites in UK, Europe after attacks

On Friday, the U.S. Embassy in London issued a cautionary notice to Americans, advising them to “exercise increased vigilance” when visiting areas frequented by Jewish and American communities in the U.K. and across Europe. This alert comes in response to a recent uptick in threats.

The alert highlighted “recent attacks and threats” against Jewish and American entities in both the United Kingdom and Europe. It urged U.S. citizens, especially those frequenting institutions connected to Jewish or American interests, to stay vigilant and adopt heightened caution.

In addition, the embassy recommended that Americans remain attentive while visiting tourist hotspots, expatriate neighborhoods, and religious sites. They should also review their personal security measures and stay informed through local news outlets.

To enhance safety, concerned travelers are encouraged to register with the State Department’s Safe Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely updates on travel and security issues.

This advisory comes in the wake of a spate of antisemitic incidents in the U.K. and Europe. These include an arson attack on four ambulances linked to a Jewish charity in London on March 23, an assault on the Kenton United Synagogue in London on April 18, and a targeted explosion at a Jewish school in Amsterdam in March, which authorities have labeled a “targeted attack against the Jewish community.”

No one was injured, but the school was damaged.

U.K. authorities are investigating whether “thugs for hire” backed by Iran are instigating the attacks in London, GB News reported.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer told the Jewish Chronicle: “In relation to malign state actors more generally, proscription, we do need legislation in order to take necessary measures, and that is legislation that we’re bringing forward as soon as we can.”
