ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Imagine encountering a house like this in your neighborhood. Residents of Horizon West, located off Emerald Berry Drive, are expressing their concerns.

A tip came into our Neighborhood News Desk revealing that a homeowner had spray-painted phrases like “Mrs MBJ” and “Combat Veteran with PTSD,” along with several numbers, across the home’s exterior.

Community Correspondent Jarell Baker took to the streets to speak with nearby residents. Many were reluctant to appear on camera, fearing that doing so might exacerbate the situation.

Residents have reached out to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Code Enforcement, and their HOA on multiple occasions. They are worried about the homeowner’s well-being, suspecting she may pose a risk to herself and potentially the community.

In response, News 6 contacted local authorities and relevant parties to determine their awareness and actions regarding this issue, and to verify if this homeowner has been involved in previous disturbances. Here is what we found.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) stated, “Our deputies visited the residence on Wednesday morning for a welfare check. Although it’s unclear if a neighbor initiated the call, deputies responded and found no one home. Given the graffiti, there is a concern that the resident may benefit from mental health services. Therefore, our Behavioral Response Unit will follow up to offer assistance and resources.”

But that’s not good enough for people who live around this house. They want the person who lives here to get help immediately — for the homeowner’s own safety and for theirs.

They also wonder: is this even legal? Yes, you can spray paint your own home, but only if the HOA approves it if you live in an HOA neighborhood, so we’re also checking with the HOA.

They also want to know whether Code Enforcement has a problem with this. We checked with them, too. We’ll stay on top of this and bring you answers as we get them.
