Flagler County deputy reassigned, charges possible after 11-year-old grazed by bullet: FCSO

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is moving to file formal charges against Master Deputy Bryan Jackson following an off-duty shooting incident that has led to the suspension of his law enforcement duties.

BUNNELL, Fla. — An off-duty shooting incident involving a Flagler County deputy has prompted the possibility of formal criminal charges after it resulted in injury to a child.

Master Deputy Bryan Jackson, who has served the agency for 13 years, has been temporarily relieved of his law enforcement responsibilities. The Sheriff’s Office is currently awaiting a decision from the State Attorney’s Office regarding potential criminal charges.

The incident took place on August 27, 2025, when Jackson discharged a firearm at his residence in Mondex. According to the sheriff’s office, a stray bullet grazed an 11-year-old boy who was playing video games in a nearby house. Jackson reportedly stated that he was in the backyard firing at a berm with a new rifle owned by his daughter. At that time, he and his daughter, Deputy Kailen Jackson, were the only individuals present on the property.

“This investigation was both thorough and comprehensive, involving a recreation of the incident and a forensic firearm analysis conducted by FBI experts in Quantico, Virginia,” remarked Chief of Staff Mark Strobridge.

The Sheriff’s Office has formally charged Deputy Bryan Jackson with misdemeanor culpable negligence in connection with the incident.

“As with any case, Master Deputy Jackson is entitled to due process, and the facts in this case and any formal charges against him will be decided by the State Attorney’s Office,” Strobridge said.

After the criminal case concludes, the sheriff’s office will conduct its own internal investigation into whether Jackson violated any agency policies.
