Baker County man charged with kidnapping and battery

Authorities report that video evidence captured Alyssa Thompson, aged 30, engaging in physical abuse against an infant, which led to the child becoming unresponsive.

LAKE CITY, Fla. — In a troubling incident on Monday, a daycare worker from Lake City was taken into custody after allegedly inflicting severe physical harm on an infant, necessitating hospitalization.

The Lake City Police Department responded to a distress call from Wee Care Too, a daycare facility located on NW Gwen Lake Avenue, following reports of an unresponsive infant. The child was promptly transported to a hospital for urgent medical care as authorities launched their investigation.

Police revealed that surveillance footage from the daycare showed Alyssa Thompson, aged 30, committing acts of abuse that caused serious injury to the baby. Consequently, Thompson faces charges of aggravated child abuse and has been dismissed from her position at the daycare.

The faith-based daycare, which caters to children starting from six weeks old, is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation, according to the police.

“This incident is profoundly unsettling,” stated Police Chief Gerald Butler. “Our thoughts are with the child and their family. We are dedicated to conducting a comprehensive investigation and ensuring those responsible face the appropriate consequences.”

Details of the child’s condition were not provided.
