According to a federal source, U.S. Secret Service officers opened fire on an armed individual near the White House on Monday.
The incident unfolded near the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue, approximately half a mile from the White House and close to the Washington Monument.
Officers from the Secret Service Uniformed Division confronted the individual after they brandished a firearm, as reported by a federal source to Fox News Digital.

The suspect was reportedly alive and transported to a hospital, according to the source. The situation seemed to be swiftly managed, with no immediate signs of an extended threat, they noted.
The Secret Service confirmed in a post on X that law enforcement shot one person during the incident.

The Metropolitan Police Department said it is on the scene investigating and that the area has been secured.
Authorities urged the public to avoid the area as road closures were expected to last for several hours.
