Ruger, a dedicated police dog, became a hero by skillfully tracking down a missing autistic teenager in a Florida parking lot, guiding officers directly to the scene of the rescue.
The intense search began on April 21 when the distressed teen disappeared from his residence, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Officer Chris Havens and his K-9 partner, Ruger, stepped up to the challenge. Ruger set off on his mission after sniffing the teen’s sock, embarking on a determined search, authorities reported.
This successful operation on April 21, 2026, showcased the exceptional abilities of K-9 Ruger from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in locating the missing teenager with autism.
Footage from a body camera documented the dramatic rescue, showing Ruger expertly leading patrol officers through dense brush and to the crossroads of Beach Boulevard and Ryar Road.
The search concluded with a heartening outcome when officers heard the boy’s cries for assistance emanating from a nearby business area.
“You did a good job calling us over,” an officer is heard telling the teen in the body camera video. “When you see the police, you say something to them.”
“We’re glad we found you, we were getting really worried,” he said.

After a checkup, the boy was reunited with his frantic family.

As for Ruger, police said that the dog earned himself a chew toy.
“Because he was able to lead officers close to the missing teen, K9 Ruger earned himself his favorite toy and plenty of ‘Good boy!’s!”
