Utz potato chips sold nationwide recalled over salmonella risk

Utz Quality Foods has initiated a recall of certain potato chip varieties under the Zapp’s and Dirty brands, prompted by fears of salmonella contamination linked to a specific ingredient.

According to a recall notice released on May 4 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the concern arises from dry milk powder used in the seasoning, which might be tainted with salmonella. This bacterium can lead to severe and potentially life-threatening infections, particularly in vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Although there have been no reported cases of illness linked to the chips, Utz is taking precautionary measures by recalling the products. This decision follows a recall by their ingredient supplier due to the potential salmonella risk, as stated by the FDA.

The FDA advises consumers to dispose of the affected products and avoid consumption. “Consumers who have these products should not eat them and should discard any products they may have,” the agency emphasized.

For further inquiries, customers can reach out to Utz at 1-877-423-0149, available from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET.
