ARCHER, Fla. – A 35-year-old man, identified as Cuncy Lee Dillards II, was taken into custody on Saturday following allegations that he forcibly removed another man from a vehicle and stole his money.
The incident unfolded on May 1 at approximately 11:45 a.m. when a deputy from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the intersection of SW 170th Street and SW 143rd Avenue in Archer. The deputy approached a parked vehicle located in a church driveway, where two men were present.
According to the victim, while seated in the front passenger seat, he was accosted by an individual known by the nickname “Tank.” The victim recounted how “Tank” opened the car door, dragged him out, and began punching him while rifling through his pockets. In the altercation, “Tank” allegedly stole about $100 in cash, tore the victim’s shirt and pants, and then fled north along SW 170th Street. The victim suggested that “Tank” might be homeless and often lingered north of the intersection.
The vehicle’s driver corroborated the victim’s story, stating that during a conversation with the victim, “Tank” suddenly appeared, entered the car, and began assaulting the victim before taking the money.
Local witnesses reported hearing a heated argument and then observed a man walking away from the scene. They also described the man, confirming his nickname as “Tank.” One witness mentioned that the victim confided in him, stating that “Tank” had indeed taken money from his pocket.
An anonymous caller to the Alachua County Communications Center reportedly said “Tank” was at “the shed” at the corner of SW 170th Terrace and SW 128th Place, but a deputy who went to that area did not find him. The deputy spoke again with the caller, who said “Tank” had run into the woods when deputies arrived. Deputies instructed “Tank” to come out of the woods, and he came out and said he goes by “Tank,” but his name is Cuncy Dillards.
Deputies reportedly found a metal straw with burnt ends and a burnt copper scouring pad in Dillards’ pockets and arrested him for possession of drug paraphernalia.
After a witness to the robbery positively identified Dillards in a photo lineup, he was charged with unarmed robbery and burglary with battery. Dillards has seven felony convictions (one sexual) and six misdemeanor convictions (non-violent); he has served three state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2023. He is a registered sexual offender who is listed as “transient” with the Department of Corrections. Judge Adam Lee ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
