APOPKA, Fla. – Authorities in Apopka are on the lookout for the driver of a white Ford pickup truck, suspected of striking a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene, leaving the individual with severe injuries.
The incident took place on April 26 at the junction of Orange Blossom Trail and Bradshaw Road, as reported by investigators. The pedestrian, a 43-year-old man, was hit while trying to cross the street.
Rather than stopping to assist, the driver sped away, abandoning the injured man, who was then rushed to the hospital and is still receiving medical care, according to police reports.
Recently released surveillance footage has allowed investigators to identify the vehicle as a white Ford F-150 pickup truck. Traffic homicide investigators are diligently tracing the truck’s route post-accident.
“We’ve followed its trail quite a distance from the incident,” stated Sgt. Clifford MacDonald of the Apopka Police Department. “We are appealing to the public and local businesses for help in locating the truck.”
Locals familiar with the area have noted that the intersection poses significant risks for those on foot.
“It could be very dangerous,” said Timothy Johnson, who regularly walks nearby. “You definitely have to be safe. You have to pay attention to what you are doing.”
Despite posted signage and traffic signals warning drivers to stop for pedestrians, police said they have responded to multiple crashes involving pedestrians at the intersection over the past year.
Johnson said the incident has made him more cautious.
“Usually, I’m vigilant when it comes to crossing the street, or walking period,” he said. “But now, it makes you want to heighten when it comes to walking in this area.”
Police said the victim remains hospitalized. Anyone with information about the crash or the vehicle is urged to contact the Apopka Police Department or Crimeline.
