Apparent bear attack kills missing hiker in Montana's Glacier National Park

Authorities at Glacier National Park in Montana have announced the discovery of a missing hiker’s body by search and rescue teams, as stated on Thursday.

The remains were found on Wednesday approximately two-and-a-half miles along the Mt. Brown Trail, situated around 50 feet from the path in a thickly forested area littered with fallen timber, according to park officials.

Officials reported that the injuries observed are “consistent with a bear encounter,” and that both wildlife experts and law enforcement are currently evaluating the site for bear presence and any potential risks to the public. The investigation is still in progress.

As a precaution, that section of the trail has been temporarily closed until the investigation concludes.

The National Park Service has withheld the victim’s identity, planning to release it only after a three-day period following notification of the next-of-kin.

On Tuesday, the service had initiated a search for a man from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who had been reported missing since he last made contact on Sunday night after hiking.
