The financial toll of the war in Iran has surged by $4 billion in just under two weeks, according to Pentagon officials who provided an update on Tuesday. This recent increase pushes the total cost to approximately $29 billion, a significant leap from the $25 billion reported at the end of April. These figures were disclosed by Jay Hurst, the Defense Department Comptroller, during a congressional session.
Hurst explained that the rise in costs is mainly due to “updated repair and replacement of equipment costs” along with other “general operational costs.” While this financial outlay is already substantial, experts suggest that the true economic impact of the war may be considerably higher.
As the situation continues to evolve, further updates will provide more insight into the growing expenses. Stay tuned for developments on this ongoing story.
Hurst previously told Congress at the end of April the war has cost $25 billion so far.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
