GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have taken 23-year-old Petergay Paige Edwards into custody following accusations of vandalizing a vehicle at a local bowling alley.

On the night of May 18, a deputy from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Splitz, located at 1301 NW 76th Blvd., where he discovered a car marred with several deep scratches. Among these marks was a derogatory term etched into the paint, and a significant dent with missing paint suggested a deliberate strike from another car door.

The car owner implicated Edwards due to their ongoing disputes and her sighting of Edwards in an adjacent parking area. She recounted how Edwards had tracked her until she dropped off a passenger whom Edwards was seeking.

After locating Edwards’s car, the deputy initiated a traffic stop and queried her about any personal disputes. Edwards reportedly acknowledged having issues with someone.

Edwards allegedly allowed the deputy to inspect her keys. The deputy observed large paint fragments and dust on the inner part of her key fob that matched the vandalized car’s paint, a sign consistent with scraping a painted surface. Typically, such a key fob would not accumulate this level of debris.

Post Miranda, Edwards reportedly would not say why those substances would be on her key. She initially evaded the deputy’s questions about whether she had scratched the victim’s car, but she later admitted to scratching a vehicle at a trail a month ago. She eventually reportedly admitted to scratching the victim’s car at Splitz.

Edwards has been charged with felony property damage. She has no criminal convictions, but she is facing a sworn complaint for making a written threat to kill the same victim. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $1,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
