LOS ANGELES — A prominent TikTok influencer, her father, and an accomplice have been indicted in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire scheme aimed at a Los Angeles-based singer, prosecutors revealed on Tuesday.
Gabriela Gonzalez, widely known on social media platforms as Gabbie Gonzalez, is facing serious charges including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder, as stated by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The intended victim in this case was Jack Avery, a singer-songwriter and former member of the boy band Why Don’t We, who shares a child with Gonzalez.
Authorities claim that Gonzalez and Avery were embroiled in a contentious custody battle over their 7-year-old daughter, which allegedly motivated the plot.
With nearly a million followers across TikTok and Instagram, Gonzalez appeared in court in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon. Prosecutors assert that she was not operating alone in this plot.
The influencer’s father, Francisco Gonzalez, a practicing attorney in Florida, along with her former boyfriend Kai Faron Cordrey from Hawaii, are also facing identical felony charges.
According to prosecutors, Francisco Gonzalez is accused of paying $14,000 to hire a hitman to kill Avery. Court documents allege that he, his daughter and her then-boyfriend as the middleman, arranged for Avery to be killed in the L.A. area.
Additional documents allege that Gonzalez believed it would be “cheaper if Avery were dead” than to continue the expensive custody battle.
The alleged plot was never carried out and was instead foiled by an undercover officer posing as a hitman.
Avery also has a significant online presence, with more than 1.4 million followers on Instagram.
Gabriela Gonzalez remains in custody on $2 million bail and is scheduled to return to court Thursday. Her father is expected to be extradited to L.A.
