Emergency services responded promptly to reports of the fall, but upon arrival, they found a 40-year-old man unresponsive. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity has not yet been disclosed.
The fatal accident took place at the Groves of Palatine, a high-end condominium complex approximately two decades old, where roof renovations were underway.
One coworker recounted the harrowing event, describing how they saw the rope whip through the air and the man halfway down. “It all happened in seconds,” he explained, adding that they struggled to lower themselves because of the difficulty in unlatching their safety equipment. “We don’t know if he didn’t secure the rope properly. It was a shocking and tragic accident.”
ABC7 talked to other members of the crew, including the brother of the deceased, who said that the team was proud to work together on the complex. No, police tape surrounds what was a busy construction site.
No further information about the incident was immediately available as local officials and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, OSHA, continue to investigate.
