Phil Collins makes rare public appearance amid health struggles

Renowned musician Phil Collins recently made a rare public appearance at Buckingham Palace, joining a celebration for King Charles III’s charitable initiative, The King’s Trust.

WASHINGTON — Following his candid revelations about ongoing health challenges, Phil Collins was spotted at an event in honor of the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust. This organization, championed by King Charles III, aims to support young people, and Collins has played a significant role in its history. His long-standing connection with the nonprofit dates back 40 years, when he became its first ambassador.

Collins attended the prestigious gathering alongside his ex-wife, Jill Collins. She shared a snapshot on Instagram capturing them with fellow music icon Rod Stewart and his wife, Penny Lancaster, a model and television personality.

“Even though we faced torrential rain, it didn’t dampen the spirits of the celebration. Phil and I felt proud and honored to be part of the event and to share some private moments with King Charles, who seemed genuinely delighted to see Phil, the very first ambassador of the Trust and a trustee before that!” Jill Collins expressed in her post.

Jill also revealed that she and Phil are organizing a fundraising auction slated for November to benefit The King’s Trust. They plan to donate hundreds of items from their personal collections, and Phil Collins has created a special T-shirt, with sales proceeds directed to the charity.

Jill Collins also said that she and Phil Collins are working on an auction in November to benefit The King’s Trust. She said they’re donating hundreds of items from their personal archives, and Phil Collins has designed a T-shirt that will be sold with the proceeds going to the nonprofit.

In January, ahead of his 75th birthday, Collins revealed in a BBC podcast that he has a live-in nurse for 24-hour care.

“It’s an ongoing thing,” he said in the interview, per People and Rolling Stone. “I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do. I’ve had challenges with my knee. I had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me.”

“I got COVID in hospital,” he said. “My kidneys started to back up. Everything seemed to converge at the same time.”

Collins explained that he has undergone five knee surgeries and currently has only one “that works.”

“I’ve had five operations on my knee now,” he said. “I’ve got a knee that works, and I can walk, albeit with assistance, you know, crutches or whatever.”
