Carnival data breach: Passengers' information, including passport details, impacted by cybersecurity incident, cruise line says

Carnival Corporation, a major player in the cruise industry, recently revealed that a security breach compromised confidential data, including birth dates and passport numbers of passengers.

The company disclosed the breach on Wednesday, stating it occurred in April when a cybercriminal manipulated an employee through social engineering techniques, thereby gaining unauthorized access to their system.

Despite Carnival’s swift actions to halt the breach, the hackers managed to retrieve personal details of passengers. The cruise line specified that the compromised data included sensitive information.

  • Government-issued identification number (such as driver’s licenses and passports)

In response to the incident, Carnival has contacted the affected customers to offer complimentary credit monitoring services. The company also advised them to be vigilant against potential identity theft and fraud, suggesting they report any suspicions to local authorities.

Additionally, Carnival is evaluating its cybersecurity protocols and implementing enhanced measures to better protect its systems against future attacks.

However, the cruise line has not disclosed the exact number of customers impacted by this data breach.
