The family of a passionate San Antonio Spurs supporter, who was declared brain-dead after a tragic fall from a truck during a celebratory gathering, remains hopeful as the teenager continues his battle for life.
Jose Luis Rodriguez III, affectionately known as Joey, sustained a severe head trauma and has been hospitalized since the incident on Thursday, which occurred during festivities after the Spurs’ Conference Finals victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, pushing the series to a decisive game seven.
“I have faith in God and the power of miracles. I am clinging to hope for my son, daughter-in-law, and our entire family,” expressed Rodriguez’s paternal grandmother to KSAT, urging the community to keep her grandson in their prayers.
Doctors diagnosed Rodriguez as brain-dead following a fall that resulted in a head injury amid the exuberant celebrations, which saw the Spurs leveling the Western Conference finals with the Thunder at 3-3.
On Saturday, the Spurs completed their comeback against the Thunder, securing the Western Conference championship and setting up an NBA finals clash with the Knicks.
Rodriguez’s family remains resolute, describing him as “fighting for his life,” and they continue to hope for his recovery.
His grandmother said the teenager’s organs are still functioning despite his critical head injuries.
