Khapri Alston, remembered as a father of two and a former professional basketball player, was a beloved figure in his community. His sudden death has left many demanding answers, especially after an arrest in connection with the shooting led to the suspect’s release without charges. This decision has fueled suspicions and allegations that the individual involved holds significant influence in Dolton.

At the meeting, Alston’s father expressed his anguish, describing the painful process of grappling with his son’s loss. His voice heavy with emotion, he shared the haunting image of his son lying lifeless on the ground, an image he cannot escape.

The incident has stirred significant unrest in Dolton, a village already familiar with controversy. The presence of former Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard after the meeting underscored the demand for transparency and justice from the community and its leaders.

The killing has sparked outrage in a village that has known controversy. Former Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard showed up after the meeting, demanding answers.

“Remember when it was me, for any little thing, I got broadcast all over the news, but now that this tragedy happened in Dolton, no one is talking about it. Like, it is getting swept under the rug,” Henyard said.

Other supporters say the case illustrates police shortcomings in Dolton and that the state should do an independent investigation of what happened to Alston.

“They are incompetent they are corrupt, and there needs to be a formal investigation into Dolton PD,” said Dolton resident Trina Downs.

“Elected officials are the ones you hold accountable. Hold them accountable. Make them give you answers for a senseless situation that did not have to happen,” Henyard said.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a statement, saying, “The CCSAO has not been contacted by law enforcement to review this case for criminal charges. As in every case, prosecutors must evaluate all of the available evidence and consider the applicable laws to determine whether we can meet the legal standard for bringing criminal charges. We remain open to reviewing any information that is brought to us by law enforcement.”
