SeaWorld San Diego is grieving the loss of Dottie, a cherished 39-year-old dolphin who captured the hearts of many. Her passing was shared in a poignant announcement by the park.
Originally born at SeaWorld Orlando, Dottie spent the majority of her years at SeaWorld San Diego, where she became a standout favorite for both trainers and guests alike. Over her lifetime, she raised four calves and was celebrated for her curious spirit and unique personality, as recounted by SeaWorld.
In their statement, SeaWorld highlighted the profound connection Dottie had with her caregivers. “Dottie’s close bond with her care team was crucial, allowing for voluntary diagnostic behaviors that were vital for her health management, especially after her kidney stones diagnosis in 2010,” the statement read.
Thanks to an innovative procedure performed by SeaWorld’s veterinary team, Dottie was able to thrive for an additional 15 years. Her strength and perseverance were evident well into her later years, further cementing her legacy.
The announcement of Dottie’s passing on Facebook drew thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, with many fans sharing fond memories of their interactions with the beloved dolphin.
“Her absence will be deeply felt by the team who nurtured her and the countless visitors who formed a connection with her throughout her extraordinary life,” SeaWorld expressed.
