Inside Lviv: Ukraine’s ‘Unbroken City’
In the city of Lviv, a complex tapestry unfolds where military farewells, civilian self-defense courses, and even beauty contests are woven together. Residents strive to maintain a semblance of normalcy amid the ongoing conflict with Russia, now entering its fourth year.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reached out directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin through an open letter, suggesting a face-to-face dialogue aimed at resolving the prolonged conflict between their nations.
“The U.S. is currently preoccupied with Iran,” Zelenskyy noted in his letter, “and it would be unwise to wait for the war in Europe to regain their focus. Ukraine is advocating for direct talks between us to bring this war to an end. I propose that we meet.”
He further elaborated on potential venues for such a high-stakes meeting, citing nations like Switzerland, Türkiye, and various Arab countries as traditional hosts for peace negotiations. “It’s the leaders who address the critical issues,” he emphasized, “and that will always be the case.”
During a joint press conference in Kyiv with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Zelenskyy reiterated the importance of involving Europe and the United States in the peace process.
