It is hardly shocking that antisemitism would gain ground in New York City under the “leadership” of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who brought the same hostility toward Israel that marked his tenure as a state assemblyman into his mayoral run in a city many would think should have overwhelmingly rejected such a troubling candidate for public office.

Yet Mamdani won support from 51 percent of New Yorkers who cast ballots in the 2025 election. Since then, he has leveraged his newfound “celebrity” status in the Big Apple to back three congressional challengers who share his deep disdain for Israel, with two of those candidates appearing well-positioned to win their primaries on Tuesday.
Among them is former New York City comptroller and unsuccessful mayoral contender Brad Lander (D), who, according to polling, has built a sizable advantage over incumbent Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman in New York’s 10th District. As previously reported, while both men are Jewish, Goldman — who has the backing of Gov. Kathy Hochul — has attempted to walk a careful line on the Israel-Hamas war, whereas Lander has embraced the pro-Hamas faction of the Democratic Party in the district, accusing Israel of genocide, apartheid and occupation.
