NFL star faces up to LIFE in prison after robbery, kidnapping arrest

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold could face a sentence of up to life in prison after authorities accused him of being involved in an alleged kidnapping and robbery in Tampa in February.

Arnold surrendered to police on Wednesday and is now facing four counts of robbery with a firearm and four counts of kidnapping to inflict harm or terrorize, according to the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office. He is due to appear in court for the first time on Thursday, when prosecutors are expected to formally file the charges.

Prosecutors said they plan to ask a judge to keep Arnold behind bars while the case moves forward, rather than allowing him to be released before trial.

The 23-year-old is accused of helping organize and direct other co-defendants to lure three men to an apartment, where prosecutors say the victims were “robbed, beaten and held at gunpoint.”

The alleged victims, described by authorities as three adult males in their late teens, suffered visible injuries after being pistol-whipped, prosecutors said. The co-defendants are also accused of taking personal belongings from the men.

Authorities allege Arnold put the plan together as an act of retaliation.

Arnold had previously told police in February that he was robbed of personal property worth $250,000 while staying at an AirBNB in Largo, Florida. The 2024 first-round draft pick claimed the stolen items included $100,000 in cash, an $80,000 necklace and a cellphone provided to him by the Lions.

However, prosecutors claim, there is no evidence proving Arnold’s alleged victims were the individuals who robbed him back in Feburary.

Arnold is specifically accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and robbery ‘just hours’ after reporting the missing items to the Largo (Florida) Police Department.

He has denied the allegations through his agent, Denise White of EAG Sports Management, who said her client ‘maintains his innocence’ and ‘categorically denies any involvement.’

‘There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations,’ read White’s statement. ‘Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.

‘Mr. Arnold looks forward to his day in court and is confident that the judicial process will lead to his ultimate vindication.’

The Lions are aware of Arnold’s arrest, but spokespeople have declined further comment ‘out of respect for the ongoing legal process.’

Previously, when the case first arose in February, the Lions seemed to think Arnold would be fine.

‘We got all the information that says he wasn’t involved,’ Lions coach Dan Campbell said at the annual league meetings. ‘That’s what we know, that’s all we know, and that’s really all I can say. As far as I know it’s not a big deal. It seems like he still wasn’t involved with this.’

Arnold’s co-defendants Boakai Hilton, Lyndell Hudson, Freddie Lee Hughes III, and Christion Williams are also being held behind bars, while two others, Arianna Del Valle and Jasmine Randazzo, have already pleaded guilty to their roles in the crime during a Wednesday hearing.

Randazzo has been sentenced to four years in prison followed by another six years of probation, while Del Valle has entered an open plea. Sentencing in her case will take place at a later date.

Del Valle is believed to be Arnold’s girlfriend. She and Randazzo were accused of luring the victims to an apartment, where the alleged assault took place.

Investigators say they discovered that Del Valle streamed the incident to Arnold and other co-defendants as the men were traveling to the apartment. Additionally, investigators claim to have discovered a group chat where Arnold and other co-defendants allegedly instructed Del Valle, Williams and Hudson on the assault.

The victims were ultimately let go by the kidnappers, authorities say, after which they informed Tampa Police and identified the suspects.

State Attorney Suzy Lopez has issued a statement accusing Arnold of vigaliante justice.

‘No one has the right to take the law into their own hands,’ Lopez said in a statement. ‘A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence, or retaliation. This arrest is the result of months of investigative work and collaboration between the Tampa Police Department and our prosecutors.

‘We will continue to pursue justice for the three victims by holding everyone accountable for their roles in this crime.’

A native of Tallahassee, Florida, Arnold attended Alabama before being taken by the Lions in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Over two NFL seasons, he has 91 tackles, 18 pass deflections and an interception.
