A Fresno family is grieving the devastating loss of a 7-year-old boy who died after drowning in a swimming pool at an apartment complex.
Authorities said Ackamus Gill was at the pool at Summer Park Apartments with more than a dozen other children on Thursday when emergency crews were called to the complex near Butler and Winery avenues for a reported drowning.
According to police, Gill had already been pulled from the water by the time officers and firefighters arrived. First responders immediately began CPR before rushing him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, ABC 30 reported.
In the hours after the tragedy, the boy’s father, James Gill, shared an emotional message on social media as he tried to process the loss of his son.
“I lost my son,” Gill wrote. “Life doesn’t feel real. Please, if you’re not immediate family, place your prayers and support here.”

Friends and loved ones quickly responded with messages of prayer, sympathy and support for the family as they mourned the unimaginable death of a child.
Among the photos on Gill’s Facebook page was an image of Ackamus smiling as the family celebrated a school promotion, a reminder of the joyful moments they shared before the heartbreaking incident.
One person who said they were at the apartment complex Thursday also reacted online, writing that they attempted to perform CPR on the boy until an ambulance arrived.
Police said the boy was at the pool with more than 20 other kids and adults. However, no lifeguards were present, KSEE/KGPE reported.
Neighbors at the complex said that the pool had just reopened last week, amid the area’s scorching triple digit temperatures.
It is unclear how long the child was under the water and was unconscious.
