Iran strikes back with targets to US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain in latest test of peace deal

Iran said Saturday night that it had launched retaliatory strikes against U.S. military assets in Kuwait and Bahrain, following American attacks earlier in the day amid a widening cycle of strikes and counter-strikes between the two countries.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it had “destroyed eight important US military facilities at the Ali al-Salem base in Kuwait and at the Fifth Fleet naval base in Port Salman in Bahrain.”

The extent of any damage was not immediately clear. Kuwaiti officials said air defenses were working to intercept incoming attacks, adding in a statement on X that “any explosions that may be heard are the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile targets.”

In Bahrain, air raid sirens sounded as authorities urged residents to “remain calm and head to the nearest safe place.” The United States maintains major military bases in both Kuwait and Bahrain.

By around 10 p.m. New York time, an official reportedly said there were no U.S. casualties and no major impacts or damage to American bases following the barrage of missiles and drones, though the situation was still unfolding.

Iran struck a defiant tone in a statement shared on social media, warning that “Any enemy aggression, whatever the pretext, even against insignificant targets… will have a crushing response.”

The sharp rhetoric followed another warning from President Trump, who posted on social media Saturday night that Iran could face further consequences if the back-and-forth attacks continue while the two nations attempt to negotiate a peace deal.

“There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started. If that happens the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
